DAY THREE:
Today was the day for Magnolia!!! The Bugs are huge fans of the HGTV show Fixer Upper, and even bigger fans of Chip and Joanna and their sweet family, so a visit to Waco and their Magnolia Market was a big part of the reason for this Texas Road Trip. This place is very easy to find, in fact you can almost see it from I35 – unless you decide to give your crazy GPS, Annie the benefit of the doubt and follow her directions – grrrr – Twenty minutes later, and a thorough tour of all of Waco’s neighbourhoods – we finally made it!
Apparently we aren’t the only ones, we expected it to be busy but wow, this place has turned into a big tourist destination – people and buses were everywhere. Even a few security guards. I can’t imagine that the Gaines’ would ever be able to go there – so many people, they would surely be mobbed.
The store was absolutely gorgeous, and it actually was quite similar to how I had pictured it in my mind to be. You could definitely get a sense of Jo’s style – which we love by the way. There was a section of t shirts and hats, leather bags, jewellery and also a section for Jimmy Don’s wonderful custom made metal signs. Baby Bug bought a Magnolia lip balm. The prices were reasonable, I wouldn’t say there were bargains but definitely within reason. And people seemed to be buying a lot.
there was a separate cute little shop that displayed several gardens and sold a variety of gardening supplies
There was a lot of seating, with a selection of approx. 6 or 7 food trucks parked along the back offering hot dogs, sandwiches, specialty drinks, etc. It was a really fun, family atmosphere with people playing frisbee and tossing bean bags on the lawn. There was also a section of swings for the kids and some large wooden porch swings to enjoy.
major line to get into the bakery but they gave you an order form while you were waiting and it really did seem to make the line up move along quickly.
And last but not least, a stop at the Silos Baking Company for a red velvet cupcake – totally delish!
After a somewhat uneventful drive back to the airport (and unplugging Annie once and for all), we made it back home, where Mama Bug has already begun to look for deals to our next destination, so stay tuned!
