The Lucky Bugs are big movie fans and one of our all time favourites is Mystic Pizza, well imagine our surprise when we learned that Mystic was a real place. We have been all over the east coast of the U.S.A. and love all of the New England towns. There’s a certain similarity to a lot of them, but most do have their own distinctive qualities. Mystic, Connecticut is approx. a 2 hour drive from Boston and it has a couple different areas to it. There is the Mystic Seaport area which has a maritime museum and also an aquarium, there is Old Mystic Village (full of shops and restaurants), and then there is the downtown area of Mystic (which is where we found Mystic Pizza).
The pizza was great and the atmosphere was fun, with lots of memorabilia from the movie. We also enjoyed the downtown area’s shops – not a huge selection, but what was there we really enjoyed.
If you’re into gambling (and even if you’re not) there are 2 major casinos (Foxwoods and the Mohegan Sun) within a 15-20 minute drive. These casinos are not just regular casinos. They have concert halls/arenas, hotels, anything you could want for restaurants, and Foxwoods even has an outlet mall. The outside pictures do not do them justice – they are really quite extravagant.

Mohegan Sun
I’m not much of a gambler but if I had to pick a favourite, I would have to say the Mohegan Sun – just for it’s theming alone. You definitely can’t judge a book by it’s cover when looking at the outside (which is actually the hotel portion), the theme is very Native American and the variety of shops and restaurants is fabulous.
“DON’T WANNA MISS A THINGS:”
- There are so many choices for food at the Mohegan Sun but an all time favourite is the Summer Shack – yum! this place actually has a sit down restaurant as well as a an “express” counter service in the food court. They serve steak and seafood – my fave is the clam strips basket- soooo good!!!
- Krispy Kreme – fresh and hot donuts right from the oven, it’s even kind of fun to just watch them making them at the Mohegan Sun.
